Man dies afterA1 lorry collision

A 70-year-old man died following an accident on the A1 near the Thistly Cross roundabout, south of Dunbar, on Monday.

Police in East Lothian are investigating how his black Ford Focus came to be involved in the collision with a heavy goods vehicle.

Police and emergency services attended about 1pm, and the 70-year-old Focus driver was found to have sustained serious injuries.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment but died a short time later.

The 51-year-old male driver of the lorry was uninjured.

inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision, and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Police Sergeant Andrew Trotter, of the Lothian and Borders road-policing unit, said: “This is a tragic collision, and our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family.

“We are still establishing the full circumstances and are eager to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the collision.”
