Maintenance work planned at Four Housing properties
Four Housing is carrying out maintenance work on properties in Berwick as part of its investment programme.
Work has already started at Eastcliffe in Spittal and is expected to start shortly at West End in Tweedmouth.
The roughcast on the homes on West End is being replaced and new gutters and pipes will be put in place.
Cllr Alex Gibson said: “I’m pleased this is going ahead as I’ve been on the case for the last year.
“Some of the homes are down to the brickwork and, as rendering kept falling off through the years, it became a health and safety issue.”
The contract for the work has been awarded to Sunters Ltd, with work expected to begin in March.
Homes in Eastcliffe are having external boundary work put in place, with the contract going to local builder Kevin Dixon.
The work has just started and is scheduled for completion in the spring.
All properties will be visited by surveyors to check the work being done.
Drop-in sessions have already been held by Four Housing to inform residents of the plans.
In a letter to residents, Four Housing maintenance services manager Kieran Cannon, said: “At Four Housing we try to maintain and repair our properties to high standards and to modernise older fittings as they wear out.
“These works are expensive and we cannot always do all we (and you) would like, but every year improvements are carried out to a large number of Four Housing properties.”
