Longridge Towers pupils praised for achievements

Pupils at Longridge Towers School have taken the new GCSE exams in their stride and celebrated their excellent results.   Â

Headmaster, Jonathan Lee, said he was delighted with what every pupil had accomplished whilst handling the change in the content and style of the GCSE examinations this year. 

Dr Nolan Dalrymple, the school’s director of learning and teaching, said there were several pupils who had battled against the odds to secure their GCSE grades this year.

Emily, who was attending hospital visits and operations throughout the exam period, secured an excellent set of results including grade 8s in sports science and geography. She had been awarded the school’s prize for endeavour. 

He also explained that three pupils had joined Longridge in Year 11 having missed much of their GCSE education in the previous year due to disruptions for personal reasons in schools north of the border. He was particularly thrilled they had all managed to secure strong passes in all of their examinations and are taking up places in the sixth form. 

Olivia said she was absolutely delighted with her results, including a grade 8 in both her biology and physical education GCSEs. She was also pleased with her seven grades at A and A* (Grade A being equivalent to a Grade 7).

Ben said he didn’t really know which way his results would go, yet was pleasantly surprised with them.  His passes at GCSE allow him to take up a diploma course with the Newcastle Falcons.

Tom Walker who has achieved A* grades in both his mathematics and further mathematics was looking forward to the new A-Levels in these subjects next year. Jake Ward celebrated achieving a grade 9 in computer science, along with an A in further mathematics.

The Spanish department was celebrating with 60 per cent of pupils achieving 7, 8 or 9 grades. In the new science examinations, 41 per cent attained a grade 7 or above. 

Ten Year 10 pupils were also celebrating their mathematics results having taken their examination a year early. With 70 per cent achieving either a Grade 8 or a 9, they are taking a further mathematics GCSE course in Year 11.

The school’s sixth form will increase by 30 per cent from September.
