A Fitness to Practise Panel hearing concluded Richard Usher, from Kelso, was not fit to practice. His removal from the register follows allegations dating back to October 2015 of mistreating and abusing, residents at Lennel House and trying to intimidate witnesses.

Usher began working at Lennel House, run by St Philips Care Limited, in October 2013, and staff raised concerns about his behaviour in October 2015.

He did not attend the hearing but the panel told him: ‘You shouted and swore at and were aggressive towards vulnerable service users. There is evidence this caused service users fear and alarm.’

“You have not only continued to deny the allegations against you but you have attempted to deflect blame onto your colleagues.”

They concluded: “The panel is very much aware a Removal Order may have significant financial and reputational consequences for a worker.

“The panel has concluded, after a thorough consideration of the alternative sanctions available to it, all the evidence and all the mitigating and aggravating factors in this case, that a Removal Order is the only sanction that will provide an adequate safeguard against you repeating your misconduct.”
