The squad includes 19 who competed in the home Games in Glasgow in 2014, and amongst their number is Berwick runner Guy Learmonth.

Learmonth will run in the 800m and following his selection he said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be selected for my second Commonwealth Games for Team Scotland.

“The Commonwealth Games only come round once every four years so it’s a dream come true to be running for my country at the championships.

“In Glasgow I finished sixth. I’m very hungry and very determined to improve on that in the Gold Coast in Australia in April.”

Coach Henry Gray added: “I’m thrilled Guy has made the team because he has worked extremely hard over the past few years to get to this level.

“Of course, this is great news for Berwick, especially after last week when it was announced that Mitchell Barton has also been named in the Scottish boxing squad for the Games.

“This is a remarkable achievement for a small town like Berwick.”
