President Mrs Hamblett opened the December meeting with a special welcome to three prospective new members, followed by the reading of the WI creed.
It was reported that all the events in November had been successful and enjoyable.
Four members had visited Belford WI, where a couture milliner gave a presentation on felt hats.
We celebrated our birthday with an excellent meal at The Cobbled Yard, during which Mrs P Bruce was presented with the cup for gaining the most points in the year’s competitions.
A chocolate tombola in the Town Hall proved popular, while a recent snowman drive was great fun.

Dates were given for centenary celebrations at Powburn, the Federation Council meeting at Newcastle and the national AGM in Cardiff.
On completion of business, sherry was served and we sang carols. This was followed by mince pies and a delicious cake baked by Mrs S Hardie using the Queen Mother’s favourite recipe.
The evening ended with a modern version of pass the parcel, where wrapped gifts were passed right or left according to a story read by Mrs E Smith. Everyone eventually received a gift.
The next meeting, on Wednesday, January 10, is a Burns Supper when resolution forms can be handed in and subscriptions are due.
