For our summer outing in August we visited Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott.
After admiring the architecture, we toured the house, where our guide explained how Scott rose to fame and became one of the world’s biggest selling authors.
He was an avid collector, the library containing hundreds of books, and elsewhere a wonderful display of weapons.
We looked in the chapel and wandered through the colourful, walled garden, before having a picnic.
Whilst in Melrose, we visited the Abbey Woollen Mill, which sells a wide range of knitwear, gifts and souvenirs.
Our next meeting is the AGM on Wednesday, September 12, when we will also have a bring and buy stall.
