Latest news from Berwick WI
In September, president Mrs J Hamblett gave a special welcome to Mrs P Marks, a WI county adviser.
After the WI prayer, the July minutes were read and signed. Mrs Hamblett reported that the August outing to Abbotsford and Melrose had been enjoyed by all.
Menus were given out for the birthday meal at The Castle in November. The proposed December outing is a trip to the Edinburgh Christmas Market and must be booked by October.
On October 24, Berwick WI is holding a Christmas Crafts afternoon, with a bring-and-buy stall, raffle and refreshments.
The annual business meeting began with the treasurer’s report, followed by the secretary’s report of events, speakers, outings and visits to other WIs.
In her address, the president thanked everyone for their support, but while we have a varied and interesting programme, membership is low.
Mrs Marks praised the reports and encouraged us to keep trying to increase membership. She wished us well for the coming year.
Our current president was re-elected for next year.
Mrs M Wood’s Antique Gloves were first in the competition, and Mrs A Easton’s Gordon’s Gin was second.
The evening ended with a quiche and salad supper, followed by a raffle.
Later in the month nine members visited Cheswick WI for a talk about The Plough on the Hill restaurant, while others were guests at Norham WI’s birthday celebrations. Both outings were enjoyable.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday, October 10, at 7pm in St Cuthbert’s Parish Centre. Visitors are welcome.
