Latest news from Berwick Stamp Club
At our meeting on December 15, members were treated to a comprehensive and humorous presentation of The Netherlands by David Strachan, from Tynemouth PS.
This traced the origins and development of philately in Holland, from before the first official issue of postage stamps to the current issues.
The display included aspects of design, production and distribution of Holland’s definitives, which were rather limited in appeal to the very informative pictorials of the later years.
The afternoon was one of conviviality and information, enjoyed by everyone present. David was given a vote of thanks by Adam Latto, who presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation and a Berwick 900th Anniversary FDC.
Our next meeting is on Thursday, January 19, at the United Reformed Church, in Main Street, Spittal, at 2pm. This will be an in-house afternoon dealing with postcard displays and thematic collections – what they are and how to go about starting or developing one. Non-members will be charged £1.
Membership is open to all, at £12 per annum, whether you are an avid collector or simply curious. The atmosphere is informal, friendly and welcoming. Free refreshments are provided.
There must be a number of people in Berwick and surrounding districts who collect stamps or postcards, but are not members of any club. If the afternoon meetings put you off coming along, give the secretary a call and perhaps the club can arrange evening meetings as well.
You do not have to have a collection of your own, simply an interest in the hobby. Contact the secretary on 01890 781400.
