Latest news from Berwick Stamp Club
Our last meeting, on Thursday, March 15, took place at The United Reform Church, on Main Street, Spittal, from 2pm.
The presentation speaker was Ken Mitchell, from Middlesborough, and current president of the North East Philatelic Societies.
He brought along part of his huge collection on “Travelling Post Offices in the UK”.
This was an informative, interesting and varied media approach using stamps, postcards, photographs and many rare examples of ‘post’ before 1840.
It was a very high class presentation, very much in keeping with his position.
We were the last stamp club to receive this presentation as he steps down from office in April.
It was extremely well received by all the members present.
A vote of thanks was given by one of Berwick’s members and he was given a Certificate of Appreciation and a 900th Berwick FDC (one of only 90 ever produced).
The next meeting will be on Thursday, April 19, when the topic title will be “Sweden”. The speaker will be Frank Carroll, from Gateshead.
Although you do not have to be a member you can still come along to the presentation. There will be no charge for non-members.
Membership is open to all, at a cost of £12 per annum.
It doesn’t matter whether you are an avid collector or simply interested or curious, just come along and enjoy the afternoon in an informal, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Free refreshments are provided during the meeting.
