The president, Coun Hazel Bettison, became the first for 114 years to hold office as Mayor of Berwick.

Both the Annual Gatherin’ and the Burns Supper were held in the Guildhall and attendances increased. She told a committee meeting that the decision to switch the supper to a Friday night had paid off. They had asked members for suggestions and the Friday brought the best turnout for years.

They had also arranged a function for the committee in the Town Hall on January 25, the date of Robert Burns’ birthday.

The annual meeting will be held at Longridge on April 27 and Mrs Maureen Watkins, from Spittal, will be elected president. Mr Michael Ross will step down as secretary and treasurer, with Coun Bettison succeeding him.
