The world's oldest Salmon Club maintained a tradition which began in 1743 when it celebrated on Monday, February 15 the opening day of net and coble fishing on the River Tweed.

Dougal Moir was president for an evening of toasts, replies, choir singing and entertainment, with Ronnie Tait, vice president, as master of ceremonies.

Principal toast of The Tweed Salmon was proposed by Michael Hindhaugh and replied to by John Coats. Another important local industry was proposed by Ian Smith and replied to by George Miller.

The Armed Forces were honoured by Jim Cummings, with the reply from Bruce Dodds. The toast to The Town of Berwick was given by Peter Ayre, with the reply from Jim Turner.

The Artistes was proposed by Michael Richardson, with the reply from David Wright. Ian Martin gave the toast to ‘mine host’ Tony Berlino.
