The revival of The Brown Bear in Berwick is an exciting project, already working well. Mark Dodds, who leads the enthusiastic team behind it, was guest speaker at Berwick Rotary Club.

An advisory group has been set up to assess the ideas put forward for what can be done in future, and he said there was room for development.
The pub is a real opportunity for him, with his background in pub restaurants and catering, and the principal business is not drinking, but socialising. He wants to provide something for everyone. It is the people who make the pub.
Mark stressed the importance of locally-sourced food with a selection of ales from the area covering Edinburgh, Carlisle and Newcastle.
The premises were accessible for everyone and it was a project that had aroused great interest. The press had been very good from the outset.
New ideas coming forward would lead to more people using the premises.
