Latest news from Berwick Rotary Club
A long career as an electrical engineer with firms involved in the manufacture of Smith's Crisps provided Berwick Rotarians with an entertaining and interesting talk.
Former president Les Landels also recalled his early days of becoming the third generation of the Landels Engineering firm to learn the trade.
He tried all the options before going into the electrical side of the business, working extensively for the agricultural and business communities. To complete his apprenticeship, he was asked to work for Porters, a firm based in what was then an industrial Lincoln City, and it was there his work for Smith’s began.
He was then moved to Stockport, where he was involved in the launch of a state-of-the-art computer system.
From there he moved to Birmingham, Deptford, Portsmouth, Brentford and Fleetwood, before eventually returning to Lincoln.
