People living in Beirut and Bekaa Valley feel encircled and vulnerable, but are putting up a great effort to improve conditions.

The Rev David Herbert, VR Church Minister at Belford, gave his views on a “relaxing” visit he made to the Biblelands with the Embrace the Middle East when he spoke to Berwick Probus Club on Wednesday.

The organisation works with all creeds and is carrying out excellent work.

Mr Herbert illustrated his interesting talk with numerous slides. Many showed the re-building and educational work in which the organisation has an important role.

Beirut, once beautiful and glamorous, is in a re-build programme, but part of it is disfunctional. Valuable steps are being taken to enable those who live in the area to reach their full potential.

The speaker visited refugee camps and met many local people and heard their stories.

He also contacted a front group, and helped to progress a ‘twinning’ link with Spittal Scouts.
