Writer, photographer, and leading organiser of an alternative society' symposium held recently in Uzopis, Lithuania, Mr Alan Dearling was guest speaker at Berwick Probus Club.

His first article and pictures appeared when he was just 15, and after studying at Kent University, he went on to cover exhibitions and band programmes given by many of the world’s major stars.

He now writes an online magazine with 50,000 hits, and has also worked for the underground press.

An interesting film, which he showed the club, included shots of the entertainment, the art and the discussions from Uzopis, which is now a republic with its own passport. It is close to the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.

The festival develops ideas, publishes art, creates free culture spaces and turns problems into opportunities. It also works on creating its ‘Preferendum’ for the future.

Mr Dearling has been told the little country will welcome him back any time – and he could be offered the post of Minister for Tourism.
