On Saturday, November 25, in the final session of Dr Adrian Jannetta's Astronomy course, we will have an Introduction to Cosmology.
This final topic will explore the large-scale structure of the universe, the speed of light and looking back in time, the expanding universe (Big Bang theory), and dark matter and dark energy.
It will be held at Berwick Voluntary Centre, Tweed Street, from 10am to noon. Tickets cost £6.
Contact Julie Gibbs at West View, Bowsden, Berwick, or by email to email@example.com or call 01289 388950.
Refreshments will be provided.
The final event of our Film Studies course will be at The Maltings on Wednesday, November 29, with a lecture by Malgorzata Bugaj on Poetry in Cinema, and a screening of Kieslowski’s The Double Life of Veronique.
Malgorzata will discuss Kieslowski’s early work in the context of post-war Communist Poland, then examine his French productions, particularly the acclaimed Three Colours trilogy.
Finally, focusing on The Double Life of Veronique, she will dissect the audio-visual elements, which create the haunting emotional resonance of the film, its soundtrack by Zbigniew Preisner, and the lighting, colour and camera work by Slawomir Idziak.
The lecture starts at 1.30pm, and the film at 2.45pm.
Tickets are available online at www.berwickea.co.uk or at The Maltings box office.
