Berwick Community Reading Group celebrated its 26th anniversary reunion at The Limoncello Restaurant, Berwick.

Over the years members have reviewed more than 320 books.

They have evaluated favourite characters, plot, beginnings, middles, endings, dialogue and storyline, and given each one a score.

The library provided the books and we have enjoyed reading them and evaluating them all, which has been a wonderful experience.

The group recently reminisced on the early days when it was first set up in 1991 by Maureen Raper in the library, which was then situated in Marygate.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

It was formed as an extension to the already established writing group.

It has been popular ever since, with the membership being consistent.

Although reading is a leisure activity, the learning and knowledge it instils is incalculable.

It is an excellent way to improve literary skills and enrich mental and physical health.

It creates friendship and improves our relationships by understanding other cultures and learning to empathise.

The words “friendship is a book” cannot be disputed.

We meet on the third Friday of every month, from 4pm to 5pm.

The next meeting is on Friday, January 20, and all are welcome.
