Latest news from Berwick U3A
At our open meeting for March, held a week past Monday, our speaker was Anne Horne, who gave a very entertaining and enjoyable talk on her visit to the Holy Land.
Not many of us would have been brave enough to embark on such a journey.
Anne and her friend, Sally, set off in a hire car from Tel Aviv, without a sat-nav or an adequate map, to try to find their first kibbutz in the middle of nowhere.
They finally reached the kibbutz with the help of a local taxi driver, who charged them an arm and a leg to guide them.
The story of their journey through war-torn Israel, getting lost in the wilderness, visiting the must-see sights, hymn singing on the River Jordan, and walking in the footsteps of Jesus, was full of awe and reverence, humility and humour, and just once or twice, a little fear.
Anne showed us the beauty amidst the horror of Israel.
The tapestry group meets tomorrow, March 18.
The art groups are now in the final use of acrylics, in which all have done some exciting work with pleasing results.
Hopefully, Art Group 2 will remember that they have an extra session on Wednesday, March 30.
Art on the Stairs is a week earlier as The Maltings is closed on Easter Monday. Please bring one picture only, ready to hang and for sale, on Monday, March 21, at about 11am.
Members and non-members can check up on the majority of our activities, and details of group leaders to contact, on our new website at www.u3asites.org.uk/berwick
