Jubilee Club in Spittal to host council meetings

The new Conservative-led administration has set up five local area councils to help bring back decision making to local communities.

Coun Georgina Hill, Independent member for Berwick East, said: “I am really pleased that every other meeting of the new council will be held in Berwick and specifically in Spittal at the Jubilee, which is an excellent venue and one which I lobbied for.

“Sometimes there is an over-focus on Berwick town centre and it is important to remember that there are more people living south of the river.

“I am delighted that residents of Spittal and Tweedmouth, who have for years felt cut off and neglected by decision-makers, will have easy access to come and observe and engage in the democratic process.”

The North Northumberland Local Area Council will alternate its meetings between Northumberland Hall in Alnwick and the Jubilee Club in Spittal.

Its remit will include planning, road spending and petitions.

The first meeting at the Jubilee Club, which has recently been refurbished by the Prince’s Trust, will take place on Thursday, July 20 with the planning part scheduled to start at 4pm and the main meeting at 6pm.

The North Northumberland Local Area Council is made up of the three County Councillors for Berwick; Georgina Hill (Berwick East), Gregah Roughead (Berwick West with Ord) and Catherine Seymour (Berwick North), plus Steven Bridgett (Rothbury), Gordon Castle (Alnwick), Terence Clark (Amble, Roderick Lawrie (Norham and Islandshire) Robbie Moore (Alnwick), Anthony Murray (Wooler), Wendy Pattison (Longhoughton), Guy Renner-Thompson (Bamburgh), Trevor Thorne (Shilbottle) and Jeff Watson (Amble West with Warkworth).
