David Stewart, Bill Maltman, Tim Smalley and Drew Hossack.

The firm, based on the East Ord Trading Estate, is also keen to highlight its continued success by celebrating its 78-year history and the changes in that time.

There will be some some unique and interesting artefacts on show which will demonstrate just how time and requirements have changed our own tools and methods of engineering.

Part of this day is a special Trade Tuesday event, which sees a 15 per cent discount on all trade supplies and stores purchased. If anyone is happy to share old photographs or anecdotes, please contact Matthew Rawlings on 01289306181.

The firm’s commitment to providing bespoke engineering solutions and unbeatable service has made it the biggest trade supplier of tools, parts, components and engineering equipment between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

In early 2016, the company was acquired by Tim Smalley, managing director of Bedmax Shavings, who, as a customer, stepped in to ensure that the firm’s unique engineering skills would be maintained when Jimmy Wood retired.

Since then, there has been considerable investment in new machinery, an increase in the number of staff employed and the firm has expanded its stores department.

“We are delighted that JH Wood has continued to build on its success,” said Tim. “We see this open day as very much a celebration of the past, as well as a showcase for our current development.

“We are hoping that both existing and new customers and the general public will come along, meet the team and also hear our plans for the future.”
