It's time to switch-on for seasonal festivities

The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on and towns and villages across north Northumberland are gearing up for the festivities.

Lots of Christmas lights switch-ons are taking place to give local residents and visitors that festive feeling.

Tonight: Carols around the Christmas tree on Main Street from 6pm, followed by free refreshments.

Saturday, November 25: Commencing with a service at St Aidan’s Church at 5.30pm followed by the official switch on at 6.15pm.

Saturday, November 25: Switching on of Christmas lights with carol singing (Marygate) and Christmas fair (Town Hall) from 10am to 4pm. Switch-on at 4.30pm. Free event.


Thursday, November 23: Late night shopping, stalls, carol service and lights switch-on at 6.30pm in the Kirk Square.


Friday, December 1: Switch-on at The Bullring between 6pm and 7pm.


Saturday, December 2: Switching on of the Christmas lights at 4pm with Blessing of the Crib. There is also a torchlit procession on New Year’s Eve with fireworks at midnight.


Sunday, December 3: Christmas market (from noon) and children’s activities followed by a lantern parade (3.30pm), carols and the switching on of the Christmas lights. Not forgetting a visit from Santa.


Tomorrow: Market Place. Amusements, music and carol singing from 6pm. Decorating the tree at 6.15pm, lights switch-on at 7pm.


Sunday, December 3: Switch-on at 4pm.
