Iron Man in St Abbs for Avengers film
Scenes for the hotly-anticipated new Avengers film, Infinity War, have been filmed in Berwickshire over the last few days.
Robert Downey Jnr, who plays Iron Man, was among the crew and cast visiting the area to shoot scenes for the film, due to be released in 2018.
It is understood Mark Ruffalo (Incredible Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) have also been there.
A mock pub called The Cormorant and Tun was created in the village and access to St Abbs has been severely restricted with road closures over four days, from Monday through to Thursday.
Access to Coldingham and Cove was also affected while filming took place.
The Traffic Order notice issued by Scottish Borders Council merely describes the reason for the road closures as ‘to facilitate the holding of local events in Coldingham, St Abbs and Cove’.
There was a degree of frustration for some who chose to visit St Abbs over the bank holiday weekend only to find they could get nowhere near the village, but on the whole there has been a buzz of excitement that Berwickshire coastal villages will be part of the latest Avengers films which are based on Marvel comic superheroes.
Former MSP John Lamont said: “Having stars like Robert Downey Jnr filming in Scotland will be a great advert for us and will hopefully encourage more movies to be shot here.”
Hollywood superstars Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson and Scarlett Johansson have been in Scotland filming the new £400million comic-book adventure movie for some months now.
Filming started in February and was expected to take six months, in various locations including Glasgow, Edinburgh, the Highlands and Berwickshire.
The cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Josh Brolin.
