Ignore public at huge cost
In my opinion, the consultation meetings regarding the new Berwick Infirmary were a complete waste of time and money.
I believe they were simply window dressing and that the decision had been taken long before the first meeting was held.
I would remind Northumberland County Council that the last time it ignored the public, a considerable sum of public money was wasted. I refer, of course, to the Chapel Street coach park.
The people have made it quite clear that we want two separate units.
It is my view that unless the infirmary is equipped with a minimum of 30 beds and an A&E department, it is a complete waste of time and money building it.
However, if the powers-that-be go ahead and build a combined leisure centre and infirmary, and when it is completed it is found to be a complete shambles, are they prepared to refund the money out of their own pockets?
If they are not then they should abide by our wishes.
In closing, I would suggest that at the next General Election, every adult should abstain from voting. I am sure our MP would make the Government aware of the situation and it would want to know why.
The answer is simple. In my opinion, north Northumberland is not a democracy and the powers-that-be run roughshod over us, giving us what they want to give us, not what we want.
