Hospital open day for nurses and midwives
Nurses looking for a new challenge for 2017 are being invited to come along to an open recruitment event at Wansbeck General Hospital later this month, where the region's newest centre of excellence for orthopaedics is based.
Senior nurses at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be on hand on Saturday 28 January from 9am to 11am in the restaurant to talk to people about roles at the new centre and opportunities elsewhere in the hospital including in elderly care, cardiology and respiratory medicine and in the community.
With the opening of The Northumbria hospital in summer 2015, Wansbeck General Hospital is dedicated to planned and on-going care and there is more space to develop services, improve patients’ privacy, dignity and overall experiences and enhance the patient environment.
A major development at the hospital last year was the opening of a centre for excellence for patients having orthopaedic surgery – mainly hip and knee replacements.
The new nurse-led centre is at the cutting edge of orthopaedic care and ensures that patients choosing the hospital for planned operations experience the very best the NHS can provide.
The centre also includes a new state-of-the-art enhanced recovery unit for patients who have more complex procedures and those who need more intensive post-operative care.
The hospital has also recently benefitted from more than £1million investment in diagnostics and the specialist oncology unit which provides chemotherapy and other supportive treatments is due to move to a new purpose-built home in the spring.
Heather Lawson, matron for orthopaedics at Wansbeck hospital, said: “This new orthopaedic unit at Wansbeck General Hospital firmly secures Northumbria’s position at the forefront of orthopaedic care.
“For many years, we have pushed the boundaries to provide even better care for our patients, pioneering fast-track techniques to reduce patients’ length of stay, using advanced techniques to increase the number of procedures able to be carried out as day-cases and, above all, improving patients’ experiences.
“The centre is truly nurse-led and offers endless opportunities for development and I’d encourage anyone who’s interested to attend our open event to find out more and look around the unit.
“It’s a really exciting time to join us at Wansbeck hospital as every department strives to provide the highest standards for patients requiring planned and on-going care. We also have opportunities for nurses and midwives in the community and across the trust and urge anyone interested to come along.”
As one of only a handful of trusts which has been rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, Northumbria Healthcare is recognised nationally for delivering the highest standards of care in hospital and the community.
It provides registered nurses opportunities to work in medicine, surgery, elderly care, paediatrics, community, midwifery, learning disabilities and mental health across Northumberland and North Tyneside.
