A group of residents are seeking to purchase The Fishers Arms by way of a community benefits society.

“Recent uncertainty regarding the building prompted an Asset of Community Value order being placed on it earlier this year and we are now looking to take it to the next stage by a community purchase,” said the group’s spokesman, Neill Berry.

Some 100 people signed the original application to have the pub listed as an Asset of Community Value.

Over 200 questionnaires have now been distributed canvassing views on how the community would like its village pub to operate. If there is enough support it is hoped to issue shares for community ownership of the pub.

The group has received assistance from the Plunkett Foundation which exist to promote rural community ventures.

The public meeting takes place in Horncliffe Memorial Hall at 7pm on Thursday, November 15.
