Out of print for more than 20 years, Norrie has added some new murders, as well as correcting some errors in the first edition.

“Murder was an unusual event in the Scottish Borders in the 19th century so when it did happen it caused a sensation,” said Norrie.

Norrie delved into reports held in the Scottish Record Office, as well as newspaper reports of the time to put together episodes that illustrate the dark side of Borders’ history. There are murder cases from all over the Borders, and Berwickshire had more than its fair share, with cases from Duns, Coldstream, Eyemouth and Reston.

Much research has gone into setting the cases in historical and social backgrounds.
