The council’s local services committee has supported a request for match funding with a decision to be made by the full council on Monday.

Coun Georgina Hill, member for Berwick East, has drawn up plans to install more play equipment at the park and also a Muga (multi-use games area).

She has committed £25,000 from her local small schemes allowance and is bidding for match funding from the town council. The request has also received written backing from Active Northumberland.

Coun Kerry Beresford proposed the committee supported the request which was seconded by Coun Brian Parkin, both speaking of the need to upgrade the play park.

Coun Hill said: “I am really pleased that the local services committee have backed this project. Other play parks in the wider area have been upgraded in recent years and Highcliffe is the obvious gap. It serves a large area which is growing with all the additional houses due to be built at Barley Rise.”
