Dom’s previous best had come at the Aviemore Half-Marathon in October, but he’s continued to train hard throughout the winter and knocked just under a minute off to clock 1.27.52.

He finished a good 223rd out of more than 1,500 runners.

Over in Cumbria, Gay Eastoe was the winner of the female 60 category at the Carlisle Resolution 10K, finishing 152nd in 55.56. Her husband Richard was one place and one second ahead.

Also that day, five male Harriers took part in the Durham Cathedral Cross-Country Relays. Times have yet to be officially posted.

Three veteran women also travelled to the course but sadly didn’t make it in time to take part.

The day before, the Druridge Bay Parkrun was cancelled due to an icy course, but there were some good performances at other parkruns.

Over at Workington, both Richard and Gay Eastoe won their age categories, and Robert Stephenson ran a course personal best at South Shields and Kirsty Steed went the distance at Durham.

Results:

Workington: 19-Richard Eastoe, 23.18; 37-Gay Eastoe, 25.40.

South Shields: 72-Robert Stephenson, 23.29.

Durham: 334-Kirsty Steed, 39.44.

MARSHALS NEEDED

Plans are well under way for the fifth of the six North East Harrier League fixtures on Saturday, March 5, being hosted by Alnwick Harriers at the town’s Pastures.

One of the most important things left to arrange are the marshals for the day. There is a list at Willowburn for those willing to help out to add their names to.

As always, there will be the opportunity to both run and marshal, so those planning to do both are asked to add an R next to their name on the poster so they are given marshal points which can be covered while they race.

It is billed as being the perfect opportunity to help out at for all those Harriers who don’t like running cross-country races.
