Guitar duo bring along eclectic mix of music
Swapping worldwide touring for a series of intimate village hall gigs, UK guitarist Remi Harris is joined by double bassist Simon Smith for an eclectic mix of music at the BURC (formerly St Paul’s Church) in Spittal tomorrow night (Friday).
Remi’s music draws from gypsy swing, jazz, blues, rock and world music. His live set includes original compositions, improvisations, jazz standards and new arrangements of musical masters, ranging from Django Reinhardt and Jimi Hendrix to Wes Montgomery and Charlie Parker.
He plays a variety of acoustic and electric guitars, and his show is interspersed with commentary about the history of the music and instruments he plays.
Remi was named after the second and third notes of the major scale (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do). He started playing at the age of seven, learning from guitar magazines, videos and recordings.
He was initially inspired by rock and blues guitarists of the ‘60s and ‘70s. He played his first gig aged 11 and in his late teens he developed an interest in jazz music. Since then he has been growing a reputation for blending all of his influences into his own individual style of playing.
The concert is at 7.30pm. Tickets are from www.beboxoffice.com, Spittal Food Store or 07752 403409.
