Greens celebrate centenary of votes for women
To mark the centenary of the first introduction of votes for women, Berwick Greens are holding a celebratory event.
The event will celebrate the steps forward that have been made, the women who sacrificed so much, and also to ask what deeds are needed now, in our own lifetimes, to make sure that democracy is still advancing, rather than going backwards.
An expert panel of speakers has been assembled, including Penni Blyth, a historian specialising in the life of Northumberland Suffragette Emily Davison and how her example can inspire young women today; Natalie Bennett, the former leader of the Green Party of England & Wales; and Patrick Harvie co-leader of the Scottish Greens.
