Grateful for all the support
On behalf of The Royal British Legion, we would like to thank everyone who helped and supported this year's Poppy Appeal.
The amount raised is approximately £26,000.
We would like to give special thanks to the Army and the Air Training Corps Cadets, who collected in supermarkets at the weekends.
They gave up their whole weekend and raised a vast amount of money.
All collectors in all supermarkets give a lot of their time and I am very gratedul to them.
This year the ladies in the cash offices at Morrison’s and Tesco did the counting an banking of the collections in their stores and this was a massive help.
Captain Kerry Noble and Mr and Mrs Ian Ross are also invaluable to the smooth running and organising of the “Poppy fortnight”.
Thirteen years ago when we took over the organisation of this appeal from Finlay and Tessa Murray and the late Joan Elder there was no local branch of The Royal British Legion.
Recently, however, a new branch was formed and we have advised them of our decison to stand down from our duties.
We are sure that a committee can be formed to carry on the organisation of the Poppy Appeal and, once this is done, the purchasers of wreaths etc will be advised how these items will be distributed.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their extremely generous support of this appeal and also to thank all the people who gave willingly of their time to “man” the collecting boxes.
Their help has been much appreciated.
Ian and Ailsa Alsop
