Good turnout expected at business conference
With just 20 places left to fill, Berwick Town Council is confident of reaching itstarget of 100 registrations for the 2017 Berwick Investors Conference.
Well over half those attending are from businesses in Berwick and north Northumberland but others are coming from further afield.
One biotech company is coming from Cambridge and Scotland is well represented again with delegates coming from the Scottish Borders, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
There is strong representation from Scottish Borders Council economic development team, as well as Alnwick Town Council. At least three registrations are from overseas.
Eric Goodyer, who organised the event on behalf of Berwick Town Council, said: “This turnout proves that Berwick is the bridge between Scotland and England.
“We are attracting inward investment, which is resulting in more employers filling up our industrial estates, creating new jobs and opportunities for the people of Berwick. That is what a great town council does.”
The conference has again secured a wide range of sponsors, raising almost £2,000 for the event. The sponsor list includes the Department for International Trade, Enterprise Europe Network and the EU, Innovate UK, Tyne Tees University, Fairtrade, Berwick Civic Society, Northumberland County Council and Arch.

Coun Stuart Bell, executive member for economic development at Scottish Borders Council, said: “Regardless of national boundaries and lines on a map, Berwick is integrally related to the Scottish Borders. A thriving Berwick town needs the Scottish Borders and vice-versa.
“I warmly welcome the initiative of Berwick Town Council to take a lead on economic development issues. The conference I attended last year was chock-full of information and advice to help businesses of all sizes to grow and develop.”
According to the organisers, there are still a few spaces left for the popular two- minute elevator pitches, during which anyone can present their business offering to the audience. There is no charge to register, or ask for an elevator pitch.
Lunchtime entertainment will be provided by the Spittal Pipers.
