Give us a fair share of wealth

In 2010, the Conservative/Lib Dem coalition abolished the regional development agencies, including the highly regarded One North East, which leveraged in £8 of private sector money for £1 of public sector investment.

This economic damage, done in the name of ‘localism’, resulted in centralised control of English regions by a remote Westminster Government.

Yet to cling on to power Theresa May has recreated ‘regionalism’, with a £1billion gift to Northern Ireland, which has a population of 1.8million people.

The North East has a population of 2.6million, so will our Conservative MPs now be demanding that we get similar treatment, with a cash injection of £1.75billion?

Britain has voted for change and that means a return to genuine local control and a fair distribution of the nation’s wealth.
