Glendale Show secretary Rachael Tait and Frank Mansfield, chairman of the Glendale Gateway Trust.

This year, the quiz will be held at the Tankerville Arms in Wooler on Thursday, February 22.

This annual event is always extremely well supported, with up to 20 teams of four people, all competing to be the best in the annual contest.

The night is always a lively race between who can remember the most useless information about sport, agriculture and food, with occasional fireworks in the teams themselves as disagreements about answers emerge.

The authoritative voice of quiz master Ronald Barber will supply a relentless series of questions on general knowledge with various cruel twists, and will spice the occasion with his celebrated picture and music rounds.

There will be tie-breaker questions for any teams that draw at the top, and wooden spoons to beat the losers.

Part of the full and varied programme of events organised by the Glendale Agricultural Society, the quiz is also a highlight of the year.

Rachael Tait, secretary of the society said: “Last year’s winners, Fake Facts beat Universally Challenged after a tie-breaker so the atmosphere was exciting to the end.

“Hopefully, they gained even more after enjoying their prize – a day at Kelso Races.

“This year, there will be additional prizes for runners up – memberships of the society and meals at The Tankerville amongst them – so it’s really worth challenging the apparent experts.”

Tickets are priced £8, with a pie and pea supper served prior to the quiz at 7pm.
