Gales to hit Northumberland

A weather warning for gale force winds in Northumberland has been issued by the Met Office.

A gust of 62mph was recorded at Letham Shank weather station in Berwick earlier.

Highways England has issued a severe weather alert for high-sided vehicles, caravans, motorbikes and other vulnerable vehicles which are advised to take extra care when travelling due to the increased risk of vehicles being blown over.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead for their journey before they set out, checking the forecast road conditons and to leave extra time if travel conditions are poor or to delay their journey if the weather becomes severe.

The warning is valid until 10am on Tuesday.
