Further roadworks on A1 in Northumberland
As we reported earlier today, traffic controls on the A1, limiting it to one lane, near the Tritlington/Ulgham turn-off to the north of Morpeth, are leading to long queues of traffic. The work, to construct a lay-by, is set to take place until Wednesday, April 6. There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound, 24 hours a day, with 40mph limits in place.
Further north, there will be various phases of overnight traffic signals north and southbound for maintenance work between Ellingham and Scremerston. This will take place until the end of March between 8pm and 6am.

Hide AdIt comes just as the resurfacing work on the southbound A1 between Alnwick and Newton on the Moor is coming to an end. As of today, there is no contraflow, all of the junctions and gaps in the central reservation are open and the only sections of single-lane traffic are at Alnwick itself and from the Shilbottle junction down the hill to Newton on the Moor (north and southbound). The works were originally scheduled to be complete by the end of this month and it appears that, despite delays caused by the weather, that schedule has been met.
