Fresh plans for Beadnell submitted
A new planning application has been lodged for the construction of a two-storey café and restaurant in Beadnell.
Northumberland Estates wants to develop a site previously used as the temporary construction compound for the development of holiday homes at Beadnell Point.
A previous application was withdrawn on October 23, with the new version providing additional car parking and space for a play area/green space.
A report accompanying the application states: ‘The development of a two-storey café and restaurant occupies a sustainable location, is free of constraints and would provide a much-needed facility to support the local economy.’
Caravan owner Alison Storey said: “It adds to the over-development of the village.”
She also complained that the new application had been lodged in the off-season when there would be fewer residents around to comment.
But Bernicia Way resident Nigel Robinson said: “There seems to be an anonymous campaign of flyers going around to discredit this application.
“However, we can only think that it will enhance the area. The waste ground is an eyesore and facilities offered would create a buzz at Beadnell Point.”
Northumberland County Council has already submitted a planning application for a coastal activities base, café and public toilets with changing facilities building on land near the public car park.
