Free wi-fi introduced at local hospitals
Public wi-fi is now available at Berwick Infirmary and 16 other sites across Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
It means that visitors will be able to access the internet and use their apps while in hospital. It is free to use and doesn’t require any information beyond a name and email address.
To access the network, patients just need to choose NHS Wi-Fi on their device and follow the registration process.
Berwick Infirmary and Alnwick Infirmary will have wi-fi access in public areas while The Northumbria specialist emergency care hospital and general hospitals will have full coverage.
Kevin Dickinson, head of IT at Northumbria Healthcare, said: “Being in hospital can sometimes feel isolating, so this service will be of great benefit to patients, allowing them to keep in touch with friends and family throughout their stay.”
