Colour Sergeant Jamie Ball, Corporal Niamh Campbell, Lance Corporal Elycia Brocker-Penalver and cadet Conor McDermott of Berwick army cadets took third place in a regional first aid competition.

The Berwick team earned their place as the Northumbria ACF A team after winning the county first aid title. They were joined by four cadets from Cramlington, the Northumbria ACF B team, and competed against teams from Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire.

Colour Sergeant Jamie Ball, Corporal Niamh Campbell, Lance Corporal Elycia Brocker-Penalver and Cadet Conor McDermott were only beaten by the ACF National Champions, Durham, whose teams took first and second place.

Lt Debra Jerdan, Commanding Officer of Berwick’s army cadets, praised the team on their achievement.

“First aid is one of the most important skills our cadets learn,” she said. “They are trained to the same level as adults who hold a First Aid at Work qualification.
