Fingers crossed fora fine Spittal Gala
Spittal Gala returns this weekend '“ with all involved hoping for a change of luck in the weather.
Last year’s event was a virtual washout with a brief crowning for Chloe Cowan under the cover of a marquee, accompanied by attendants Owen Courtney, Laila Turnbull and Liv Agnew.
The weekend kicks off, literally, with a five-a-side competition on Saturday in the school field. There are four levels with registration, at £6 per team, taking place for nine and 11 years at 9.15am with under 13s and under 15s at 1.30pm.
Gala Day itself is on Sunday on the grassed area at the southern end of the Promenade next to Hud’s Head.
There will be a car boot sale from 11am.
Entry to the event is by bucket collection and there will be a variety of amusements for young and old alike.
The new gala queen will be Ellie Coackburn, flanked by attendants Frankie Scott and Kate Nichol and page boy Tyler Porteous. She will be crowned at noon, with the civic party in attendance.
Organisers are encouraging children to bring their teddies along for a teddy bears’ picnic, while entertainment will be provided by Chris Wish. There will also be face painting, races and a fun fair by Leipers and Slaters.
There will also be a bouncy castle, tombola, music and refreshments.
