The Duns-based company, which has over 750 employees, has transformed its business in recent years through a programme of investment in technology and staff development.

Linda Dickson, Farne Salmon’s head of human resources, said: “Farne is one of the largest salmon processing businesses in Europe.

“We are committed to creating a state-of-the-art facility here in Duns and at the heart of our growing success is our people.

“They are our most precious resource and we have taken a number of steps to recognise this, from the development of career plans for all employees to adopting new health and safety procedures and creating a pleasant and healthy working environment.

“Everyone here now enjoys a host of benefits including onsite occupational health and massage facilities, awareness weeks and free fruit on Fridays.”

Farne’s commitment to the area has resulted in the creation of more than 100 new jobs in the last year and the company’s profitability has also increased.

The company’s human resources team was named the top team in Scotland in the S1 Recruitment Awards this year and Farne also received a Silver Healthy Living Award in recognition of its efforts to provide a healthy and safe working place for its staff.

Farne’s award-winning streak may also continue as the business is shortlisted in Vibes Awards, a scheme developed to recognise companies with the strategic vision and management systems that enable them to continuously improve their contribution to Scotland’s sustainable development.

Linda continued: “To be named one of Scotland’s best employers is an amazing accolade and we are delighted to have been recognised through so many recent awards across a number of business areas from employee development to environmental sustainability.

“Our hope is that what Farne is achieving will inspire other business in this region to continue to strive for success.”

The winners of the Vibes Awards will be revealed in November.
