Local residents are being encouraged to attend events taking place on November 21 and 22 to view the proposals by Fred. Olsen Renewables to install solar panels at Crystal Rig Wind, located between Dunbar and Duns.

Fred. Olsen say the plans, which are due to be submitted to the Scottish Government later this year, will deliver a more consistent supply of energy from the existing wind farm and provide over £470,000 in a community benefit fund.

Fred. Olsen Renewables has been undertaking consultation since February 2023. The feedback that has been received, combined with the findings of environmental and technical surveys, have helped to inform the final design that will be on display. The plans would see more than 53,000 solar PV panels installed between the existing wind turbines at the site – generating 27MW of electricity.

Rachel O’Donnell, Project Manager at Fred. Olsen Renewables, commented: “I would like to encourage as many people as possible to attend our forthcoming events and view our updated plans for the installation of solar panels at Crystal Rig. The feedback we have received to date, alongside the results of our environmental studies, has helped us to reach the final design that will be on display. We hope residents will take the time to attend.”

The exhibitions are taking place on:

Tuesday 21 November

  • 10am – 2pm - Longformacus Village Hall, Duns Road, Longformacus, TD11 3PB
  • 3pm – 7pm - Garvald Village Hall, Burnside Ct, Garvald, EH41 4LN

Wednesday 22 November

  • 10am – 2pm - Cockburnspath Village Hall, Callander Place, Cockburnspath, TD13 5XY
  • 3pm – 7pm - Innerwick Village Hall, Main Street, Innerwick, EH42 1SE

Rachel continued: “The team will be on hand to answer any questions that residents might have on the plans. If residents are unable to attend, I would encourage them to view the information on our website where they can view all the project details and leave their views on the plans.

“Our proposals for solar at Crystal Rig are a fantastic example of how different renewable technologies can work together to make a site more efficient – delivering a more consistent supply of electricity to the grid.”

The dedicated project website www.crystalrigwindfarm.co.uk will be updated with regular news and residents can leave comments on the proposal. Anyone with any questions can also get in touch by calling 07435 763 900.
