Enthralling show is perfect for children
Outstanding choreography, fantastic sets and an enthralling performance '“ Northern Ballet certainly didn't let its audiences down.
Performing to a sell-out crowd at Berwick’s Malting’s theatre last weekend their production of The Tortoise and the Hare, specifically designed as a ballet for children, was, in one word, superb.
I have always loved ballets, but it was a first for my three-year-old daughter, and despite her tender years the fantastic performance meant she was able to follow the story despite there being no words.
Impeccable dancing, fantastic facial expressions, brilliant costumes and a superb band, all made it a fantastic production.
Six dancers played nine different characters – The Tortoise, Hare, Molly the Mole, Harold the Hare, The Bunnies, Bumble Bee, Squirrel and Butterfly.

It never fails to amaze me how just music and dance can tell a story, and to do that for children is even more astounding.
Colourful sets, and even the encouragement of the audience cheering at the right moments all added to the performance.
Packing everything in to a 40-minute production was sheer brilliance and a perfect duration for children to sit and watch. All in all, a performance I would definitely recommend.
