The Warmer Wealthier Berwick project is now well past its half-way point and is happy to have helped more than 50 households.

About a third of these have been helped to switch their energy supplier, saving on average around £235 a year.

Other help has included assisting eligible households to obtain a free boiler (scheme still open) and whole heating systems (now closed).

A small but significant number of those helped have more complex problems with their energy supplier or improving their home.

Derek Russell, project officer, said: “These cases have clearly shown that energy suppliers often deserve little loyalty and offer poor service to those who need it most.

“This is where the project can really help by dealing with issues on behalf of residents.”

The project is open to all who need some support or advice. All help is free, confidential and independent.
