Berwick Town Council has bought a vacant retail unit at the entrance to Castlegate car park.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, May 4, and is expected to attract more than 50 horses and riders.

The unit has been empty since it was purchased by Berwick Town Council last year with a view to potentially providing a tourism-related offer.

Town clerk Gareth Davies said: “In the absence of any response from Northumberland County Council we have offered to loan the building to Berwick Riders Association from mid-April to the second week of May. They are going to use it for putting a display up connected to the Riding of the Bounds to promote the event.”

Repairs to the unit are also still planned.
