Duchess not deterred by gale
A force eight gale coincided with the visit of The Duchess of Kent to Seahouses 25 years ago to launch a new lifeboat.
But the weather didn’t deter visitors as they turned out in their droves to witness the occasion.
The Grace Darling was the fourth lifeboat to bear the name of Northumberland’s most famous daughter and cost £455,000, with a speed of 16 knots, double that of the one she was replacing. It was paid for by fund-raising.
