Driving cases dominate at Berwick court

Tweedmouth woman Helen Guthrie was fined £120 for carrying a knife, namely an ornamental fixed blade, in the Berwick branch of Sports Direct. The 38-year-old, of Blakewell Gardens, pleaded guilty to an offence which happened on January 3. She was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs.

Greenlaw man Ryan Foulis, of West High Street, pleaded guilty to three driving offences and was committed to Newcastle Crown Court for sentence on April 5. The 21-year-old admitted driving dangerously on Tweed Street in Berwick on October 20, causing damage to another vehicle and failing to report it and failing to stop after an accident.

Berwick man Phillip McArdle, 30, of Palace Street, pleaded guilty to drink-driving at the McDonald’s drive thru/ car park on February 17. He gave a positive breath test of 51mg alc/100ml breath. The legal limit is 35mg. He also admitted insurance and licence offences. He was banned for 16 months and ordered to pay fines and costs of £370.

Eyemouth man Andrej Zukovskij , 42, of Haymons Cove, pleaded guilty to driving on the A6105 at Brow of the Hill Farm without due care and attention on November 6. He was ordered to pay fines and costs of £225 and had six penalty points put on his driving licence.

East Lothian woman Laura Barnsley, 41, of Binningwood Road, Whitekirk, admitted drink-driving on the A1 at Berwick on February 18. She gave a positive breath test of 46mg alc/100ml breath. The legal limit is 35mg. She was banned from driving for 12 months and told to pay fines and costs totalling £415.

North Shields man Alan Fothergill,43, of Waterville Road, pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving on the A697, near Wooler, on November 10, driving whilst unfit through drugs and with cocaine in his blood and was sent for trial at Newcastle Crown Court on April 5.
