Double defeat for Tillside on final day of the Senior League

Tillside 1sts ended their first season in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League on a losing note when they went down by 15 runs on their visit to neighbours Alnwick 1sts.

In what was a low scoring game, Alnwick were all out for only 82 with their top scorers Max Harrison and Bradley Spiers both on 17.

Cameron McGregor took 3-10 and Jake Birkett 3-18 for Tillside, who in their innings struggled to only 67 all out with opener Liam Hindmarsh on 20.

Jamie Guy had a good spell with the ball taking a match-winning 6-21.

Tillside 2nds lost by 51 runs when they played their final game of the season at home to Alnwick 2nds.

Alnwick batted first and put on 176-5 in their 45 overs. Harry Lobb was the mainstay of the innings with 95.

The Etal side replied with 125-8 in their innings.

Berwick 1sts won by 98 runs when they travelled to take on Corbridge 1sts in the Northumberland League.

Elliott Keenan top scored with 60 and Scott Middlemist hit 45 as Berwick put on 158-8 in their 40 overs. Andrew Dover took 4-29 for the home side, who in reply made only 60 with Steven Emery, Middlemist and Nalinda Premchandra all taking three wickets apiece.

Berwick 2nds won by 50 runs in the corresponding fixture against Corbridge 2nds.

Openers Richard Farish and Iain Thomson hit 75 and 54 respectively as Berwick posted 157-6 in 30 overs.

Corbridge were all out for 107 with opener Neil,Tiffin their top scorer on 32. Farish took 3-20 with John Simmons and Michael Beveridge claiming two wickets apiece.

Warenford’s game at home against Hebburn 1sts was cancelled.

Wooler won by nine runs when they beat Ashington Rugby at Glendale.

Andrew Aitchison hit 41 as Wooler put on 131 all out in 36 overs with David Wanless and Trevor Elliott taking three wickets apiece.

Opener Stephen Henderson hit 37 as Ashington replied with 122-6 in 40 overs, with Angus Todd claiming 2-28.

Embleton conceded their game away to Monkseaton 2nds.


The final games in the Northumberland League are due to be played on Saturday. Local fixtures are:

Premier Division - Warkworth 1sts v Berwick 1sts.

Division 1 - Whitley Bay 1sts v Warenford.

Division 2 - Berwick 2nds v Bomarsund 2nds; Embleton v Tynemouth 3rds; Wooler v Alnmouth & Lesbury.

Division 3 - Rock v Ulgham 2nds.
