Afterwards, Becci Murray, Berwick Food Bank project manager, sent a letter of thanks to the school.

She said: “We would like to say a huge thank-you to the children and parents of Holy Trinity First School for the fantastic donations that you have collected for the food bank.

“You have clearly worked really hard getting the word out about the work that we do and the people we support.

“Thank you also to the children who kindly unpacked the crates of food in the food bank, our volunteers will be very busy sorting and organising the donations next week.

“Last year the food bank handed out 403 food parcels to families and individuals in the Berwick area, and we think that more will be given out this year.”

The food bank is currently in need of donations of rice, tinned vegetables, milk and shampoo.
